The best activities for kids on the Costa Blanca!

The Costa Blanca has been a favourite destination among families for years, and for good reason. This beautiful coastal strip in south-east Spain combines sun, sea and beach with a huge variety of child-friendly activities. Whether travelling with young children or teenagers, on the Costa Blanca every family member will experience the holiday of their dreams.

The beaches are, of course, a big draw. Most are clean, well maintained and have the Blue Flag seal of approval, which stands for safety and quality. For children, the beaches near places like Calpe, Altea, Jávea and Guardamar del Segura are especially ideal. They slope gently into the sea, allowing children to play and swim safely. Moreover, there are often playgrounds, lifeguards and cosy chiringuitos (beach bars) where you can get ice creams, snacks and cold drinks.

For little water rats, the region’s water parks are an absolute must. Aqualandia in Benidorm is one of Spain’s most famous water parks, offering slides and water fun for all ages. From quiet children’s zones to super-fast slides for the tough daredevils – the whole family can have a whole day of fun here. A little further away you will find Aqua Natura, a smaller-scale but very child-friendly park that is often just a little quieter.

Animal lovers are also in for a treat. At Mundomar, near Aqualandia, children can come face to face with dolphins, sea lions, parrots and monkeys. Fun and educational shows are held daily, and in some cases children are even allowed to help feed the animals. At Rio Safari Elche, just south of Alicante, you will discover a beautiful zoo in the middle of a palm grove. There are playgrounds, a petting zoo and even a swimming pool to cool off in between.

Besides water fun and animal adventures, the Costa Blanca also offers plenty of culture and nature for young explorers. Consider climbing the Santa Bárbara castle in Alicante, where children imagine themselves knights and princesses while enjoying stunning views over the city and the sea. In Villajoyosa, families can wander among the colourful cottages and visit the famous Valor chocolate factory – including tasting, of course!

If you love nature, don’t miss the Algar waterfalls. Located near Callosa d’en Sarrià, these are a magical setting for a day out. You can swim in naturally formed pools, walk along small waterfalls and picnic in the shade. An absolute must on hot days! The Sierra Helada and the viewpoints of Jávea or Moraira also offer beautiful hiking routes that are also good to do with children.

Many villages and towns on the Costa Blanca organise local festivals and markets during the summer months, which often include children’s activities. Think bouncy castles, face painting stalls, small fairground attractions or parades with dressed up knights, dancers or even dragons. These festivals are a great way to experience local life up close and experience something special together.

And let’s not forget the everyday things that feel so special on holiday: going to the market together, getting fresh churros from a stall, looking for souvenirs in a shop full of Spanish trinkets, or just a game of football on the beach. The Costa Blanca invites you to be together, to slow down, to really enjoy yourself together.

For families who prefer something more organised, excursions can be booked everywhere. Glass-bottom boat trips, snorkelling safaris, jeep tours through the interior or even a tourist train ride along the coast – there is always something to suit your children’s interests and ages.

In short, the Costa Blanca offers endless opportunities for family fun. It is a region where children can play, discover and learn freely – and where parents can really relax themselves. From sun-drenched days on the beach to unforgettable adventures in amusement parks and nature reserves, memories are created here that will last for years to come.
